Coined by John Koenig in The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, anemoia is defined as “a nostalgia for a time you’ve never known.” This series is intended to delve into that feeling of the unknown yet strangely familiar. There’s a certain beauty that can be found in the uncanny valley, which goes hand in hand with this false sense of deja vu. The mixing of materials and techniques acts as a catalyst for the effect by combining parts that were not initially intended to be together in comfortable compositions, giving a sense of serenity amongst the eeriness of a past that does not exist.
